For Albireo’s operations and due to business growth we are looking to fill a Head of Portfolio Management position in Boston’s Financial District.

The Position Overview  

The Head of Portfolio Management, Senior Director level, will be responsible for managing the PMO team with direct and dotted reporting lines and live the role as a service provider. This role will be defining processes and tools to drive standardization and alignment, ensure the successful delivery of programs/projects, and facilitate resource management all across the organization, including R&D and Commercial. This role will lead the implementation of the PMO strategy to support scalability and meet organizational performance targets within agreed budgets and timelines. This role will lead the execution and delivery of all projects, managing day-to-day activities, risks, dependencies, budgets, resources, and timelines in order to hit all program goals on time, within scope, and with required quality.

The person taking this challenging role is seen as the trusted and brutally honest advisor to Albireo’s Enterprise Team. The incumbent challenges the thinking of the policy makers and decision takers. It’s a paramount objective to generate clear and identifiable value to the organization.

This position reports directly to the Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel.

Your Responsibilities  

  • Trusted, but thought provoking advisor to Albireo’s Enterprise Team
  • Establish Portfolio management is a service provider
  • Contribute to long-range planning and budgetary planning at the program level
  • Facilitate decision-making, collaboration, and problem-solving with people at all levels of the organization to accomplish shared program goals
  • Facilitate cross-program reporting and presentation of program information to the R&D and Commercial Operating Teams, Functional Heads, and other key stakeholders
  • Oversee all program management activities including planning, reporting, global risk assessment and mitigation, and lessons-learned
  • Practices all PMO processes – including scope/ deliverables, timeline, cost, quality, communications, people resources, risk, stakeholders
  • Process owner of Portfolio/Program/Project Management – Develop, Manage, Evaluate and Improve the process
  • Supervisor of Direct and Dotted line project/program leaders
  • Work with the PM team to drive the successful achievement of program objectives aligned with the business strategy
  • Ensure timely execution of the program plan and effective risk management
  • Identify and champion best practices in Program Management, including the use of templates, tools, and processes to drive efficiency, alignment, and effective planning and establish a “single source of truth’ within the organization’s databases
  • Drive a performance-based culture through accountability, coaching and mentoring of (in)direct reports, and providing regular feedback to foster leadership, strategic thinking, and business acumen
  • Establish consistent standards across programs, using the same dashboards, formats, approaches, etc. Creates synergies, effectiveness, uniformity and alignment across the organization

Your Profile

  • Has a Bachelor’s degree, preferably Masters, in related field; and 6+ years of Program Management experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Understands the rare disease business and brings learnings from this environment
  • Has operated and lived the 5 stages of PMO and understands the value of all PMO processes
  • Demonstrates the ability to lead the development of complex project strategy and deliver on project plans, timelines, progress, and outcomes
  • Shows outstanding leadership skills including an innovative approach to problem-solving, and an integrated view of the business
  • Thrives by interactions with R&D, International Commerce and Backoffice support functions
  • Shows that Executive presence and Humbleness can be found in one person
